According to WKRN and WPSD, authorities arrested Laureen McArthur, 27, of Union City, on negligent homicide and child abuse charges in the Nov. 14 death of the 14-month-old boy.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Union City police said officers began investigating the case Nov. 10 after a child with burn wounds was admitted to an area hospital. Investigators determined that the boy had been “scalded by bath water over 47% of his body,” according to the post.

The toddler died four days later in an Arkansas hospital burn unit, police said.

Authorities later arrested the boy’s mother, McArthur, in Alabama and extradited her to Obion County, Tennessee, on Monday, according to the Facebook post.

No further information was immediately available.
