Simon Cowell and his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Silverman, are engaged, a representative for the “America’s Got Talent” judge confirmed to several media outlets on Wednesday.
Cowell, 62, and Silverman, 44, began dating publicly in 2013, shortly after Silverman’s ex-husband and Cowell’s close friend, Andrew Silverman, filed for divorce in July of that year, CNN reported. Andrew Silverman claimed the couple was involved in an extramarital affair.
Cowell and Silverman took a walk together in Barbados on Christmas Eve and he surprised her by proposing on the beach, People reported.
The proposal took place during a family vacation, and the couple’s 7-year-old son, Eric, and Silverman’s eldest son, Adam, were also present, according to the magazine.
“They are both super happy,” the source told People. “They’ve been together a long time now and adore each other so it’s not a huge surprise to their close friends.”
Cowell rose to stardom through his caustic comments as a judge on “American Idol,” according to “Today.”
