New homeowners find human skull in fire pit

TRENTON, Mich. — While you may expect to make some discoveries when you move into a new home, this one isn’t one you think you’d find.

New homeowners in Trenton, Michigan, made a disturbing discovery -- a human skull in a fire pit at their home, WXYZ reported.

The owners, who have not been identified, recently moved into a home previously owned by Mark Eberly. Eberly died in Tennessee in June after he shot at police, The News Herald reported.

WJBK reported Eberly moved from the home possibly in March, and before the move, neighbors said he had nightly fires in the pit.

Police are trying to track down a possible girlfriend of Eberly's who could have been living at the house at the time he moved out, WJBK reported.

When the new owners of Eberly's former property found the skull, they called the police and cooperated with the authorities as the investigation continues, WXYZ reported.
