SMYRNA, GA — A three-month search for a murder suspect has ended after Smyrna police arrested a man while responding to reports of car break-ins.

Trey Webb was taken into custody Thursday after officers responded to calls about auto theft on Spring Road.

Police say they found Webb and another man breaking into vehicles at the scene.

Webb had been wanted since July in connection with the death of a man found shot inside a vehicle involved in a single-car crash.

Investigators identified Webb as a suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest days after the deadly shooting.

Several law enforcement agencies had been searching for Webb since the warrant was issued.

Following Thursday’s encounter, officers arrested Webb on the outstanding murder warrant. He is also facing additional charges.

Smyrna police say the victim’s family has been notified of Webb’s arrest and had supported detectives throughout the investigation.
