The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office previously said a routine security check led officials to discover the inmates were missing. — Two women have been indicted after being accused of helping a trio escape from a metro Atlanta jail last year.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta says Melayna Whatley and Gabriela Ortis made calls last year to find a getaway driver for Stevenson Charles and two other inmates at DeKalb County Jail.
Whatley is accused of letting the escaped inmates use her home to hide from law enforcement, while Ortis called a Lyft driver.
