DEKALB COUNTY, GA — An 18-year-old driver is facing charges after a three-vehicle crash involving a sheriff’s deputy shut down traffic on I-20 for roughly four hours Friday morning.
Georgia State Patrol says a Greene County Sheriff’s Office SUV and a crash truck were stopped in an active work zone on I-20 East at Panola Road when 18-year-old Jakori Cope rear-ended the deputy’s vehicle.
The impact forced the sheriff’s office SUV into the crash truck. All three vehicles came to an uncontrolled final rest, blocking the roadway.
Cope and the 21-year-old Greene County sheriff’s deputy were treated for injuries. The severity of their injuries is unclear.
Cope is charged with following too closely and violating Georgia’s Move Over Law.
I-20 has since reopened.
