Several animals rescued as fire damages Atlanta home

House destroyed in fire 689 North Avenue

ATLANTA — Several chickens, ducks and a cat were rescued from a burning home in northwest Atlanta on Friday.

Fire crews say they arrived at the home on North Avenue to find heavy flames coming from the front and right sides of the house.

Officials said there were “significant fire conditions” in the attic.

The homeowner told firefighters the cats were playing when they knocked over a heater. The heater landed on some books and caught fire.

The resident and a child were not injured.
