Jasmaine Smoak A woman has been arrested in another county after police found a child dead during a welfare check.

ATLANTA — A second woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a 4-year-old boy in southwest Atlanta.

Jasmaine Jenkins was arrested in Wilkes County in connection with the death of a boy identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner as Cobee Da’Kyrie Cooks.

Atlanta police say 32-year-old Jasmaine Smoak was arrested earlier this week and faces murder and aggravated assault charges, in addition to previous charges of cruelty to children and concealing a death.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner ruled the child’s death as a homicide and said he died from blunt force injuries.

Police discovered the child’s body inside a southwest Atlanta home earlier this week.

Investigators believe Smoak left the home with three other children and traveled to Wilkes County in east Georgia.

Authorities used license plate reader technology to track Smoak to Washington, Georgia, where she was taken into custody.

One of the three children found with Smoak had severe injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Smoak is reportedly a friend of the mother of at least two of the children.

Atlanta police say Jenkins also faces murder and cruelty to children charges.
