SOUTH FULTON, GA — A South Fulton man says he and his two dogs were shot by a Fairburn police officer after officers responded to a call about a woman in the roadway.

Fairburn police responded to the 300 block of Bishop Road, an address that was later determined to be within the City of South Fulton.

The resident said his German Shepherd and pit bull ran out of his propped-open door. Police said the two dogs charged at officers, and one Fairburn officer opened fire.

The man said he rushed outside and was trying to wrangle the dogs back into the house when he was shot in the foot.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been released. The man said both of his dogs were also shot and required treatment for gunshot wounds. Both dogs survived.

The man is now back home.

There has been no word on what happened to the woman who was reported in the roadway.

The GBI is leading the investigation into the incident.
