ATLANTA — All northbound lanes of the Downtown Connector have reopened following a deadly pedestrian crash that shut down the interstate for several hours Thursday morning.

Atlanta police responded to I-75/85 north near Williams Street after receiving reports of a person hit by multiple vehicles.

Police say officers arrived and found the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. Police have not released the victim’s name.

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. before the 10th street exit.

All northbound lanes were shut down throughout the morning drive, with traffic diverted off the interstate at the Peachtree Street exit.

All lanes reopened around 8:30 a.m.

The crash comes after three deadly pedestrian crashes were reported near the downtown area over the weekend.

Safety officials urge drivers to remain inside their vehicles, if at all possible, if they are forced to pull over on the side of an interstate.

The investigation into the deadly crash continues.
