Parents of closed metro area private school demand tuition refund, file lawsuit

Midtown International School Announces Closure Effective April 3

ALANTA — Parents are demanding answers and a refund after a metro Atlanta area private school closed earlier this year with only four days notice.

Midtown International School, located off Briarcliff Road in DeKalb County, announced it would permanently shut its doors following a vote by its board of directors.

Attorney Shimshon Wexler says parents are demanding answers about why Midtown International School in Druid Hills continued accepting money from students’ parents.

According to the lawsuit, MIS owed parents around $370,000.

“The school unexpectedly closed early and they failed to refund tuition,” Wexler said. “We want to know why the school was collecting tuition at a time when it very possibly could have known that the school wasn’t going to be able to provide services for the money that was paid.”

Midtown International, which described itself as a school for globally minded gifted students, previously said that declining re-enrollment and financial strain led to the decision to close.

Midtown International School had previously been scheduled to continue classes through May 21. It closed on April 3.
