DUNWOODY, GA — Office space near Perimeter Mall has been rezoned for a new townhome development aimed at providing living options for older adults and empty nesters.

Up to 122 three-story townhomes will be built on 12 acres along Ashwood Parkway. The development will be less than a mile from stores including Publix and Target, with access to restaurants, primary care and a MARTA station.

Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch said the location will give residents several options within walking distance.

“Here there will be people that will be able to walk to the restaurants, and to the doctors office, and if they’re hearty they can walk to MARTA,” Deutsch said.

“If they happen to work in Perimeter they can walk to work, lots of good stuff,” she added.

Twelve of the townhomes will have the option to install an elevator.

Council member John Heneghan voted against rezoning the property, disagreeing with the classification and the lack of plans for single-level homes.

“Does nothing for aging in place, and I believe that our community as a whole deserves better,” Heneghan said.

Developers and the city council are pushing for construction to be completed or close to completion by 2028.
