ATLANTA — New details are emerging after a 4-year-old boy was found dead inside a southwest Atlanta home Tuesday, leading to the arrest of a woman who police say left the home with three other children.

Atlanta police discovered the child’s body at a home on Cardinal Drive.

Investigators say 32-year-old Jasmine Smoak left the home with three other children before she was located in Wilkes County, about two hours east of Atlanta.

Following the discovery of the boy’s body, police used license plate reader technology to track Smoak to Washington, Georgia, where she was taken into custody.

Authorities say one of the three children who were with Smoak had severe injuries that required hospitalization.

Smoak is a friend of the mother of at least two of the children.

She was booked on charges of second-degree cruelty to children and concealing a death.

Investigators say additional charges are possible as the investigation into the case continues.
