ATLANTA — A popular road in the Atlanta area is set to close while crews make repairs due to a structural issue.
Motorists who use the Moores Mill Road Bridge over Peachtree Creek are being encouraged to to find an alternate route to use until later this month.
According to a post from Atlanta City Councilman Dustin Hill, “an overnight water valve failure caused a buttress wall to collapse, causing some further damage to the 100-year-old bridge.”
The Moores Mill Road Bridge will remain closed through at least October 26, while engineers continue working to assess the damage, officials said.
That study will then determine reopening or whether further closure for repairs or replacement is necessary.
Hill added, “even if it is reopened or only repaired, this bridge will continue to be a top priority for replacement for Districts 9 and 8, as it is over 100 years old and has had a number of issues over the years.”
