CLAYTON COUNTY, GA — A 6-year-old boy reported missing Saturday was found dead in a pond Sunday evening following a search in Clayton County.

John Ross III was reported missing around 7:45 p.m. Saturday from the Meadow Springs Apartments in the 6000 block of Riverdale Road. Police say the child, who was visiting from out of town, was nonverbal and had developmental disabilities.

Clayton County police and sheriff’s deputies searched the apartment complex and surrounding areas for the boy. The search was suspended around 3 a.m. Sunday before resuming at 8 a.m.

Authorities used a drone during the search, while Forest Park police assisted with ATVs to search wooded areas around the complex. Divers also searched a nearby pond.

The Butts County dive team recovered John’s body from the pond Sunday evening. Police say the pond is no deeper than eight feet.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and it is unclear whether foul play was involved.

John’s father was arrested on an unrelated charge, according to police. Authorities did not provide details about that charge.
