COWETA COUNTY, GA — An investigation is underway after hackers targeted another metro Atlanta water system on Friday.
The Coweta County Water and Sewer Authority confirmed cyber criminals gained access to controls and attempted to turn valves on and off.
However, CEO Jay Boren says it did not disrupt water service.
“We were immediately notified and there was no effect on the water quality or any of our customers information,” Boren said.
The Coweta County Water System was one of several in the U.S. that were impacted by a cyber attack last month.
So far, the FBI has not yet confirmed if Iran is behind the attacks.
A disruption also happened at another water system on July 27, according to Clayton County Water Authority.
The authority says reduced water pressure in certain areas led to a precautionary boil water advisory, which was later lifted after required water-quality testing confirmed the water met applicable safety standards.
