ATLANTA — Property tax relief is on the way for eligible Georgia homeowners as the state prepares to distribute funding through a new grant program.

Gov. Brian Kemp announced that the Georgia Department of Revenue will begin distributing money to local governments this week as part of the 2026 Homeowner Tax Relief Grant Program, approved by the General Assembly.

The one-time program provides eligible homeowners with an $18,000 reduction in their home’s assessed value for the 2026 tax year.

The reduction will be applied directly to homeowners’ property tax bills, lowering the amount they owe.

The funding will be distributed to local governments beginning this week.
