Georgia sees nearly 200,000 ballots cast on first day of early voting

GEORGIA — Georgia voters turned out in large numbers Tuesday for the first day of early voting, with nearly 200,000 ballots cast across the state.

Nearly 190,000 voters cast their ballots in person, while more than 10,000 mail-in ballots were returned.

The first-day turnout surpassed all but the final day of early voting during Georgia’s 2022 midterm elections.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says the high turnout reflects voters’ confidence in the integrity of the state’s elections.

This year’s election includes several major races, including contests for governor, a U.S. Senate seat, all 14 of Georgia’s congressional districts and every seat in the Georgia General Assembly.

Early voting continues through Oct. 30, ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
