Georgia officials warn of fake vendor market advertised on Facebook

GF Default - SCAM ALERT:

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Agriculture is warning the public about a fake event being promoted on Facebook for this weekend.

The fraudulent event is advertised as the “2026 GATE Atlanta Vendor & Artisan Market,” scheduled for Aug. 21-23 at the Atlanta State Farmers’ Market in Forest Park.

Matthew Agvent with the Georgia Department of Agriculture says the event does not exist.

“This is just something that has been completely made up out of thin air,” Agvent said.

The department learned about the advertisement after a concerned citizen who saw it on Facebook contacted state agriculture officials.

Agvent says the people behind the Facebook page are attempting to collect money and personal information from those interested in participating.

“It is just a made up event and if you look at the Facebook page, they’re trying to solicit the payments, as well as business information and contact information for people that sign up,” Agvent said.

Officials say they are not currently aware of anyone who has fallen victim to the scam.

An investigation is underway, and Georgians are being reminded to remain vigilant.
