Friday night football to look different as Coweta County tests new security system

COWETA COUNTY, GA — Fans attending Friday night’s high school football game between East Coweta and Northgate will encounter new security procedures as Coweta County Schools tests a weapons detection system and implements a clear bag policy.

The district will use scanners to screen spectators entering the stadium. Anyone who triggers an alert will be directed to additional security screening.

Only clear bags will be permitted inside the stadium as part of the new safety measures.

The changes follow a fight at an East Coweta football game in August that resulted in five men being arrested. Deputies also recovered a handgun following the incident.

School officials say the additional precautions are intended to provide a safer environment for families attending the game.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early and prepare for potentially longer lines as they pass through the security checkpoints.
