Family of man found dead at DeKalb County Jail demands answers

DeKalb County inmate death David Addo-Wright died on Sept. 23. The sheriff’s office says they found the 24-year-old unresponsive in his cell with “several wounds.”

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A family is demanding answers after their beloved 24-year-old son died while behind bars at the DeKalb County Jail.

David Addo-Wright had attended Clark Atlanta, and Lincoln Tech, and was awaiting induction to the Marines, Wright’s uncle Brian Griffith said.

A family attorney says six men went into Wright’s cell and Wright never came out.

“This is a young man who was moving in the right direction and doing what he needed to do,” his father Darren Wright said. “We want to know who knew what, when they knew it and why wasn’t this addressed appropriately.”

Wright’s body was cold by the time anyone checked on him.

Wright had been inside the jail for less than 48 hours.

He was jailed after being involved in a fight with his cousin. Officials say he was about to be released on bond.

GBI officials are encouraging anyone with information on Addo-Wright’s death to contact the GBI Atlanta Regional Investigative Office in Conyers at 770-388-5019.
