MISSISSIPPI — The family of Nolan Wells gathered for a vigil in Mississippi on Aug. 19, what would have been his 19th birthday, as they continue to seek answers about his death.
Wells was found dead last month on Horn Island, two days after his friends reportedly left him behind on the barrier island.
His mother, Christine, says the loss has deeply affected their family.
“Nolan was an incredible person and this loss has definitely affected our family in ways we could have never imagined,” she said.
Wells’ father, Elmore, reflected on the memories he has of his son.
“Just a joy that he brought to our family. Watching old videos and reading old messages, all are just memories,” he said.
Wells’ family is calling for a deeper investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The district attorney in Jackson County says information currently being collected cannot be released but has promised a thorough investigation.
