COBB COUNTY, GA — An investigation is underway after an e-bike rider was seriously injured in a crash early Monday morning in Mableton, according to Cobb County police.
The crash happened around 8:47 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Highway and Mableton Parkway.
Cobb County Police officials say a gray 2008 Mercedes-Benz S-Class was traveling eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when a black e-bike was traveling southbound across the highway in the crosswalk from Floyd Road against the pedestrian signal.
The front right of the Mercedes hit the rear tire of the e-bike. The Mercedes continued east before coming to a stop in the parking lot of 730 Veterans Memorial Highway. The e-bike was pushed into the right eastbound lane of Veterans Memorial Highway, investigators said.
The e-bike rider was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Their identity was not released.
The driver of the Mercedes was not injured, according to police officials.
The Cobb County Police Department’s S.T.E.P. Unit is investigating the crash.
