FULTON COUNTY, GA — The redevelopment of a metro Atlanta area mall is moving one step closer after the Fulton County Commission approved a plan to participate in a tax allocation district.
According to Commissioner Bob Ellis, it is part of their effort to make the project at the North Point Mall appealing.
“This particular tad has a specific purpose to attract a project of regional significance, announcing the award of an NHL franchise,” Ellis said.
According to officials, the deal is contingent on securing a professional hockey team for the metro area. If that doesn’t happen, then no county money will be used.
Commissioner Bridget Thorne says these incentives are necessary as they look to get a pro hockey team.
“We’re in competition even with Forsyth, just over the border, a neighboring county and I want Fulton County to win,” Thorne said. “Its going to have a huge impact on the entire county, its going to have a huge halo effect around that area.”
