COWETA COUNTY, GA — A bomb threat is under investigation Monday afternoon at a Georgia Power plant in Coweta County.

According to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, there is a large police presence investigating the bomb threat at Plant Yates.

Coweta County 911/Emergency Management Agency said Highway 16 has been shut down and plant staff are being evacuated as the investigation continues.

Plant Yates is located at 708 Dyer Rd.

The public is being asked to avoid the area if possible.

A Georgia Power spokesperson released the following statement:

“We place the safety of teams working to build, maintain or operate our facilities first every day. We can confirm that we received reports of threatening language alleging an explosive device onsite posted inside a portable toilet at the Plant Yates construction site this afternoon – we take this very seriously. Workers have evacuated the site and we are working with local authorities to sweep the site to ensure safety before work resumes.”
