FULTON COUNTY, GA — Drivers traveling through southwest Fulton County should prepare for another full closure of Interstate 285 on the Westside this weekend as the Georgia Department of Transportation continues a major road improvement project.
All northbound and southbound lanes of I-285 between Cascade Road and Langford Parkway will be closed beginning Friday at 7 p.m. The roadway is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
Georgia DOT crews will be milling and grinding the roadway’s concrete surface in preparation for repairing or replacing concrete slabs throughout the project area.

The work is part of a multimillion-dollar surface replacement project that requires full highway closures rather than traditional repaving.
Drivers will be directed to alternate routes, including I-20 and the Downtown Connector (I-75/85), as traffic is diverted around the construction zone.
The detours are expected to increase traffic volume on those interstates as cars and large trucks seek alternate routes.
Georgia DOT is urging drivers to pay attention to roadside message boards and posted signage and to prepare for delays.
Several additional weekend closures are planned in the coming weeks as work continues.
The project is expected to be completed in 2029.
Drivers can stay informed about the closure and changing traffic conditions through 95.5 WSB’s around-the-clock traffic coverage.
