DEKALB COUNTY, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is charging five DeKalb County Jail inmates in connection to the death of a 24-year-old inmate.

David Addo-Wright died in custody after less than two days in the jail.

A family attorney previously said six men went into Wright’s cell and Wright never came out.

Inmates Amir Andrews, Dajuhn Bryant, Treonte Brintley, Messiah Hinson, and Jayden King are all facing charges for murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and more.

He was jailed after being involved in a fight with his cousin. Officials say Wright was about to be released on bond before his death.

“We appreciate the GBI for its work on this case,” said Sheriff Melody M. Maddox. “Our thoughts and condolences are with Mr. Addo-Wright’s family. We will continue to cooperate fully with the GBI as the investigation and prosecution move forward.” All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The GBI investigation remains ongoing. Questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation."

Wright’s uncle said he had attended Clark Atlanta, and Lincoln Tech, and was awaiting induction to the Marines.

“This is a young man who was moving in the right direction and doing what he needed to do,” his father Darren Wright said last week. “We want to know who knew what, when they knew it and why wasn’t this addressed appropriately.”
