The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., celebrate Founders Day

Throughout the day on Wednesday, the ladies of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority are celebrating 108 years of sisterhood.

“The sorority was founded on Jan. 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University,” Ebony.com’s Bianca Garwood writes. “The innovators wanted not only to use their collective strength to encourage academic excellence but to also provide assistance to those in need.”

In their first public act, the founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. participated in the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C. in March 1913.
