Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett celebrated for work behind COVID-19 vaccine

An African American woman from North Carolina is being praised for her work in leading the effort to solve the COVID-19 pandemic, an ABC news affiliate in Houston reports.

“Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, a research fellow and scientific lead at the National Institute of Health, is on the frontlines working with a team of scientists, studying Moderna’s vaccine, one of the two COVID-19 vaccines shown to be effective by more than 90 percent,” ABC 13′s Tim Pulliam writes. “The drug is expected to receive emergency use authorization by the FDA later this week.”

Corbett told reporters that she wants to make it clear “that the work that we have been doing for so long I personally stand by it, essentially with all of my being.”
