ATLANTA — The King Center Saturday night in Atlanta hosted its 37th Annual Salute To Greatness Awards Gala. The event honors an individual and corporation that exemplify excellence in their leadership and have demonstrated a commitment to social responsibility in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The awards, one of the King Center's highest honors, recognized actor, musician and activist Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, for his philanthropy which includes taking a mobile water filtration system to Flint, Michigan.
Bernice King, the youngest child of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, presented 21-year old Jaden with the Coretta Scott King A.N.G.E.L. award in front of hundreds of people including his father Will and Grandmother Caroline.
The gala observed the 91st birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and raises funds to support free events throughout the year and assists with nonviolence work and training activities.
