There’s a 6p-6a daily curfew in place as the border town of McCaysville, Georgia, is currently in emergency recovery mode after being devastated by catastrophic, record-breaking flash flooding.
Rescue teams evacuated dozens of families as floodwaters rapidly submerged downtown streets, rising 6 to 7 feet high in some areas and reaching the roofs of lower-lying homes. Across Fannin County, more than 80 people were successfully rescued.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declared a State of Emergency for Fannin and surrounding counties. McCaysville itself remains under a strict local State of Emergency, restricting town access to authorized emergency personnel only.
