High School Cellphone ban passes Georgia Senate

Lawmakers have passed a ‘bell-to-bell- ban on cellphones, smartwatches and headphones in public high school and extended existing K-8 restrictions.

If signed by Gov. Kemp, the policy takes effect for high schools in the 2027-28 school year, aiming to improve mental health and focus.

The legislation applies to public K-8 (effective July 1, 2026) and will expand to public high schools by the 2027-28 school year.
