Brothers Armani and Camari Warner have been locked up since June, when a neighbor came to their house following a dispute with their younger sibling.
The brothers’ mother says they were defending an elderly family member when the man approached their property and attempted to assault the family member.
18-year-old Camari Warner and 23-year-old Armani Warner, who she says have no criminal history, heard a man yelling at their elderly family member before the confrontation escalated.
Their attorney says he plans to argue both Georgia’s Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine laws in their defense. But, investigators say the laws cited by the defense do not apply in this case. Reportedly, the man fired a gun several doors down from the home before her sons returned fire.
Their mother, Kehonia Vick, filed a separate court case against her neighbor. During that proceeding, a Gwinnett magistrate judge criticized his actions during the confrontation.
“We’re in Georgia, everyone and their dog has a gun, and you come to my house like that, you’re not going to get to your nine,” the judge said.
The brothers’ mother says the case has derailed her youngest son’s plans to begin his freshman year of college.
