Meet O.G. Bessie Stringfield, the “Motorcycle Queen of Miami”

Stringfield broke many boundaries in 1920s America.

Bessie Stringfield was nicknamed the "Motorcycle Queen of Miami" for driving through Florida's streets on her Harley-Davidson with a carefree attitude during the Jim Crow Era. Stringfield was 19 when she crossed America alone on her bike in 1930, and became a dispatch rider for the United States Army in the 1940s during the time when motorcycle riding was considered "unladylike." When Stringfield got bored with riding through the 48 states she took to other countries like Haiti and Brazil! (Via Vice)
