Mother accused of stabbing 13-year-old boy at bus stop

Local | WSBTV

A mother accused of stabbing a middle school student at a bus stop says her son was being bullied.

Channel 2’s Matt Johnson learned that 44-year-old Tayza Harris’ attorney said she denies using a weapon. Her attorney said she plans to turn herself in as she is facing very serious charges including cruelty to children.

Atlanta Public School Police are waiting for Harris and her daughter 24-year-old Chelsea to turn themselves in.

The 13-year-old victim told Johnson that they used a knife and a razor blade to cut him in his head and hand last Friday morning on the way to Bunche Middle School.

Through Harris's attorney, she denied all the charges and said the victim was actually bullying her son.

The boy said he and the other student just had an argument earlier and said he's not a bully.
Parents said there's no reason for adults to harm children.

“These are kids, the parents should have come together and talked about it,” said parent Lusha Shepherd.

The mother's attorney said she's facing aggravated assault and battery charges and cruelty to children. The victim said he hasn't seen the 11-year-old student involved in the attack since last week.

APS hasn't said what kind of discipline he's facing.
