Atlanta Bicycle Coalition to Offer Free Bicycle Classes

Bicycle safety classes are essential for reducing crashes and improving overall safety on Atlanta’s roads. The bicycle classes will range from the “True Beginners” class for novice adult riders to the “Confident City Cycling” class, which accommodates cyclists looking to feel more comfortable navigating Atlanta’s streets. ABC also plans to offer classes for middle-school aged youth.

The first free neighborhood class will be offered on Saturday, May 19, from 10am-3pm at The Frazer Center in Lake Claire and will serve the residents of Candler Park, Kirkwood, and Edgewood. The neighborhoods of Grant Park, Old Fourth Ward, West End, and Castleberry Hill as well as the Atlanta University Center are also planning to offer classes in the near future. ABC is seeking additional neighborhood associations and/or college campuses for partnership. Pre-registration will be required, and classes will be capped at 20 participants.

The Confident City Cycling class covers everything a bicyclist needs to know about "driving" a bike safely and confidently around metro Atlanta. The class includes bike handling drills and an instructor-led ride with feedback to reinforce skills learned in class. Both new urban cyclists and seasoned Atlanta riders will have their eyes opened on the less intuitive aspects of Atlanta biking
