10 Worst Cities For Traffic

By Clark Howard

Traffic is getting worse, but does your city rank in the Top 10?

There are new stats from 24/7 Wall St./Inrix, the latter a leading-provider of traffic information, that lists the worst cities for traffic. The list is tallied based on morning and evening rush hour numbers:

Here's a look at the 10 worst cities for traffic

10. San Jose (Silicon Valley)
9. Seattle
8. Boston
7. Washington D.C.
6. Austin
5. Bridgeport
4. New York
3. San Francisco
2. Honolulu
1. Los Angeles

Meanwhile, a new Gridlock Index from Inrix confirms that tie-ups, congestion, and everything else you love to hate on the road are on the rise. The numbers used to crunch the index were collected from Internet-connected GPS devices in 100 metro areas.

"While more people hitting the road might be awful for drivers, it’s also a sign that more jobs and more orders are being filled –- great news for the economy," the company noted.

By comparison, over in Italy and Spain, where economics woes continue unabated, traffic delays almost a thing of the past -- at least for now.
