Fulton County Launches Discount Dental Program to Provide Savings

In response to the economic times, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the Department of Health and Wellness is offering the National Association of County Officials (NACo) Dental Discount Card to provide residents with discounts on certain dental services and procedures when used at an approved provider. Information regarding discount cards is available at county facilities such as health centers, libraries, senior centers and government centers.

“Fulton County is proud to be one of the counties participating with NACo in this pilot program to offer significant savings on dental care for the uninsured and underinsured resident,” said Patrice A. Harris, MD, Director of Fulton County Health Services. “Oral health is important to overall health.”

The dental discount program is NOT insurance nor is it a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. Every resident that signs up for the program will receive a membership card, a toll free number, a list of participating providers, a list of services covered and a list of the cost of services. The discount is available to Fulton County residents regardless of age, income or existing health coverage.

The cost for membership is as follows:

  • Annual Pricing: $59 Single/$69 Family
  • Monthly Pricing: $6.95 Single/$8.95 Family

There is no limit on the number of times a resident/member can use the card to receive discounted dental services during the year. Discounts will be taken at the time of the service with a participating provider. Members can use their plan nationwide with participating providers to save:

  • 5% to 50% on most dental procedures including routine oral exams, unlimited cleanings and major work such as dentures, root canals and crowns
  • 15% to 20% savings on Orthodontics included for both children and adults
  • Cosmetic dentistry such as bonding and veneers also included
  • 15% to 20% reduction on normal fees where available for Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics and Prosthodontics

There is no cost to county taxpayers for Fulton County to offer this dental discount program. The program is administered by the Careington International Corporation, an industry leader with one of the most recognized professional dental networks in the nation.

Take a Loved One to the Doctor

When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you feel like doing good. And we all know that when you know better, you do better.

Join KISS 104.1 and Jacque Reid of The Tom Joyner Morning Show in your community with the 10th anniversary of The Tom Joyner Take A Loved One To The Doctor Day …Friday September 30th -  in Riverdale at the City of Riverdale Town Center 7210 Church Street from 6am - 3pm.   Free health screenings including diabetes, prostate, cooking demonstrations  and more…… brought to you by the City of Riverdale and KISS 104 Atlanta’s R&B.

Taking care of your health is essential to looking, feeling and doing better, and the Tom Joyner Morning Show is kicking off its annual "Take a Loved One to the Doctor" season to help you get on the good foot. "Take a Loved One to the Doctor," an effort between Joyner and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Administration launched in 2002, aims to raise health and wellness awareness in the black community. “One of the biggest roles of the Tom Joyner Morning Show is to empower our audience by directing them toward areas that make a positive difference,” Joyner said in a statement launching this year’s campaign. “Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day has been a call to action that has led to early detection of diseases and conditions that have saved lives and led people to change the way they live. It’s gone from one day to an entire season, giving us more time and momentum to get the message out and help more people get proactive about their health.” The season, which will culminate in the annual "Take a LOved One to the Doctor Day on Sept. 30, will features interviews with doctors and wellness specialists on "The Tom Joyner Morning Show," informative articles and links to information on BlackAmericaWeb.com and live reports and appearances at Doctor Day activities around the country, including health fairs featuring members of the morning show crew. The campaign is designed to:

  • Reduce the health disparity between black America and the general population.
  • Improve access to culturally relevant health care information.
  • Better educate members of the African-American community regarding the benefits of prevention and treatment of serious diseases.
  • Create accountability overall that engages listeners to take a more active role in encouraging loved ones to seek health care.

“At the end of the day, nothing we try to accomplish through politics, entertainment, education or anything else matters more than us becoming healthier as a community,” Joyner said. “Take A Loved One to the Doctor season is a consistent reminder for us to make being in good health a priority," he said. "At the end of the day, people are much more likely to go vote, attend PTA meetings and just get out and do more in the community when they’re feeling good.”

Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Preparedness

Sponsor Organization: Federal Emergency Management Agency Campaign websites: www.ready.gov, www.listo.gov Volunteer Agency: Cramer-Krasselt, The Vidal Partnership

91% of Americans believe it’s important to be prepared for emergencies. However, only 58% of households report having taken any steps at all to prepare. In order to encourage more Americans to prepare themselves, their families and their communities, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has sponsored public service advertisements (PSAs) that educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to all kinds of emergencies. Launched in February 2003, the Ready Campaign asks individuals to do three key things to prepare for the unexpected: 1) get an emergency supply kit, 2) make a family emergency plan, and 3) be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses. At the website www.ready.gov, Americans can find national and local preparedness information, and tools needed to prepare for and respond to potential emergencies.

Listo The campaign also has a complete Spanish-language component, Listo. The campaign includes Spanish-language PSAs for all media types, its own website, www.listo.gov, and an information hotline, 1-888-SE-LISTO. Launched in December 2003, the Listo campaign promotes the same preparedness message as the general market Ready campaign, however it is targeted to Hispanic Americans. The newest creative phase of Listo launched in September 2010 and promotes the idea that preparing today will help reduce the consequences of a disaster tomorrow. Ready Kids A family-friendly extension of the Ready Campaign, Ready Kids is a tool to help parents and teachers educate children, ages 8-12, about emergencies and how they can help their families prepare.  Launched in February 2006, the Ready Kids Web site (www.ready.gov/kids) features fun games and puzzles as well as age-appropriate, step-by-step instructions on what families can do to be better prepared for emergencies and the role kids can play in that effort. The website also has additional resources and information for parents and teachers on emergency preparedness and response.

Ready Business Ready Business, an extension of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's successful Ready Campaign, is designed to educate owners and managers of small to medium-sized businesses about preparing their employees, operations, and assets in the event of an emergency. To spread this critical message, Ready Business strives to reach and motivate America's small businesses to take action and get prepared. With an emergency plan in place, small businesses can better adapt, recover and stay in control.
